biography

In the past four years, I have been a site designer at SmithGroup, and gained valuable skill-sets that certainly are transferrable to this position. From urban planning to streetscape design, from generating schematic ideas to preparing construction documents, I have been involved in a number of projects of various scales. Because of my ability to meet demanding deadline with high quality results, I, in many cases, has become an essential part of the team. I contributed my design ideas and even lead our team to complete projects in some cases. For instance, when we were competing for Wujiaba CBD project, my project manager delegated one of the most critical pieces in the overall masterplan – the central park to me because he had faith in me that I had what it takes to excel the assignment. In Wanxiang Innova City project, I led my team to provide a schematic level report to the clients so that we could meet project deadline. In addition, I work with architects, civil engineers and other sub-consultants on daily basis, which provides me an understanding of holistic development method of designing outdoor spaces. More importantly, my interaction with these diverse talents offers me different perspectives to address issues as well as to be a better team player.

Prior to becoming a landscape designer, I received my bachelor degree in horticulture. Changing from working on repeated biological and chemical experiments in a lab to drawing, modeling and producing digital artwork
in a studio was challenging and overwhelming. However, thanks to my mixed background, I not only master macroscopic level designing but also am able to view things from a microscopic perspective. I am now driven not by cultivating a plant but to create a better habitat both naturally and culturally.
